Own YOUR Swing

One of the biggest issues amongst high school and college players is that they don't own their swing. Owning your swing is being confident that your swing will work against any pitcher in any situation. Your swing is the only thing you can control in the batters box. So it is essential that each player trust his or her swing in the moment of battle.

If you change your swing in the middle of an At Bat you have no chance of consistence success. Trusting your preparation is crucial in the moment of an At Bat. The only thing a hitter should be focused on while at the plate is the ball. Too many players think about mechanics or a result instead of focusing on the ball, trusting their preparation. This is owning YOUR swing. It's easy to see when a player is slumping that he or she is not thinking about the ball. They are not trusting their preparation and not confident in what they are doing. There will be highs and lows in a baseball season. That's the nature of the game. But if you continue preparing and continue to own your swing then the highs will be greater and the lows will be shorter.

An important thing to remember is that this is your swing. It may be modeled after a professional player or a coach, parent, or teammate may have helped you create it, but this is your swing. No one else's. Own it and trust it no matter what.

This swing by Kyle is a perfect example of him owning his swing and taking a great swing and driving the ball up the middle. The next GIF is Kyle's next AB and essentially the same pitch and you'll see Kyle change his swing, slow down his barrel, and results in a ground out to second when he barreled the baseball.

You can see the clear difference in both swings. Kyle doesn't take the same swing and doesn't finish his extension and even though he barreled the baseball, he didn't take HIS swing and as a result did not achieve his best result.

Bottom-line, OWN your swing and you will succeed more than you fail.
